Then we add our tasty wild caught Alaskan smoked salmon that is not on the endangered species list. Ours comes from Harbor Banks®, a sustainable Marine Stewardship certified fishery. Then we add vine tomatoes (not sprayed with pesticides), organic onions, sliced cucumbers and our own dill creme fraiche. When I started Hannah's in 2004 I didn't just want to open a food shop. My objective was quite simple, I wanted to show that fast casual, tasty and healthy are not mutually exclusive. That modern doesn't mean losing our traditions. A simple and straight forward concept that is based on fresh, organic ingredients, whole grain nutrition and strong environmental business practices served in a modern and friendly environment.
It also helped that I always had a passion for food and cooking. Fresh and tasty food brings fun and pleasure to family and friends, whether it is lunch, or a dinner party or leisurely Sunday brunch, food brings us together. I attribute my closeness to food to my childhood in Stuttgart and in the fields around our family's farmhouse in Bavaria, where I joined the local farmers in the fields during summer to harvest potatoes, carrots, corn, apples, plums, pears or simply to tend to the cows, sheep or those lovely pigs.read more »
Hannah's is committed to using as many organic ingredients and brands as we can get our hands on. We are first to use only organic ingredients for our sandwich breads. We are first to change our pastry to 95 percent plus organic ingredients, from our apple, blueberry and banana bread to our blondies, brownies and oatmeal and chocolate chip cookies and our 100 percent organic seeds + whole grains health bar.
If it is not organic we commit to an all-natural product. Our certified organic turkey and domestic ham is all natural and free of antibiotics, growth hormones, nitrates and sulfates. And our imported hams are produced in Spain and Italy, where guidelines come much closer to organic then US based hams. Simply put, if we can't spell it, its not in our foods.read more »
Hannah's is the first quick service sandwich maker in Chicago to focus on environmental efforts. That is why we were the first quick service restaurant to be awarded with the Chicago Magazine Green Award in 2008.
Since 2004 our commitment to the environment has been a founding principal of Hannah's Bretzels. Sandwiches are not Über if they do not keep our planet healthy, and our communities clean. Its not Über if it's being eaten with a toxic fork, or sitting in plastic wrap. And if it's not Green, we're not hungry.
